Description:
Dozens of shops, museums, restaurants, bars and galleries are located in the downtown Strand Historic District of Galveston. The district is located by the waterfront of Galveston Island, across the bay from the mainland. Every winter the largest Mardi Gras celebration in Texas takes place in the Strand for 12 days; other annual events include the AIA Sandcastle Competition and the Dickens on The Strand festival.
